Pacific Tide

I love spending time on the Oregon coast. My family has been meeting there for one fun-filled week every summer for the past 25 years. Our children have grown up with great memories of playing in the tide pools and roasting marshmallows over campfires. We have built forts out of drift wood and castles out of sand. And in the evening, we fall asleep to the sounds of the great Pacific. This quilt measures 48"x62".

Bainbridge

One of my favorite things to do here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, is to go for a ride on a ferry. The Puget Sound has an abundance of islands and from the vantage point of the ferry, I can take in all the cattages that dot the shoreline. Someday I would like to have a small get-away on one of the islands, maybe Bainbridge. Someday, I will be the one looking out the window of my cottage, watching the ferries go by. And on those days when the wind picks up, I'll have this little cottage quilt to keep me warm. This quilt measures 50" x 60".

Then Came Ocotber

Then came October full of merry glee! I love the changing seasons - spring and fall are my favorites. Taking a walk on a cool fall day, the leaves swirling around and rustling under my feet, I can almost feel like a kid again walking to school. This fall quilt measures 72" x 84".

Summer Reigns

I love to look through my collection of books of antique quilts. The quilt that inspired the embroidery in this small quilt pattern was very busy and full of color. Although I was really drawn to it, I wanted to try creating something similar with a monochromatic color scheme. This same quilt was the inspiration for my new line of fabric with Moda called Redbird in the Bowers. The title for the pattern is the title to a little poem I found years ago. I have always loved the words.

SUMMER REIGNS

From the wood-lands cool and shady, Hear the happy song-birds call, See the blossoms blooming sweetly, Where the dancing shadows fall.

Ruby's Flower Basket

My Grandmother's name was Ruby. She lived to be 95 years old, and she was sharp as a tack! Growing up, I would stay with her and Grandpa Bert on their farm in Oreogn. My sisters and I would have free run of the orchards and fields. This was a working farm and my grandparents worked from sun-up to sun-down, but they always found a time to plant a small flower garden, just enough to add a splash of color. Memories of the farm, and Bert and Ruby, will always hold a very special place in my heart. This quilt measures 50" x 60".

Aurora

This quilt was inspired by an old Aurora Colony quilt. My grandparent's farm was in Aurora Oregon and throughout my childhood we would frequent the old Ox Barn Museum there. Every year the museum would have a quilt show. I chose to use high contrast fabric colors in the body of the quilt with a softer look to border it. It measures 66" x 72".

Twist

I wanted to create a quilt with movement and motion. My day seems to always be in constant motion! If I'm not at my drawing table painting or sewing, I'm at the computer. My focus point is about 2 feet in front of me! I try to remind myself to stop and look out my studio windows. Through them, I see the surrounding green hills, the pears in the neighbors tree, and I can hear the little chickadees at the bridfeeder. When life gets going too fast, this seems to put everything in perspective and reminds me to slow down and focus on what's really important in life. This quilt measures 51" x 69"

Whitlock

On Wednesdays, there is a group of my mom's quilting friends that meet at the local vacuum and sewing store in downtown Salem, Oreogn. The store is called Whitlock's. When I visit mom in Oregon I enjoy going with her to Whitlock's and visiting with this creative group of women. On my last visit I saw a quilt set up in a quilting frame, being hand quilted. Each block was different and it was quite striking. There was one block in particular that I was drawn to. I grabbed my paper and pen and sketched it out. I tweaked it a bit and played around with color choices. This quilt, Whitlock, is named for the quilt block I was inspired by at Whitlock's and the wonderful women sewing there. This quilt measures 64" x 88"
